Traffic Safety Challenge

The Police Department entered the 2003 Traffic Safety Challenge through an application submitted by Sgt. Wasek. On August 19, 2004 the department was awarded first place in the category of municipal police departments with 1-10 full-time officers. The program lokks at all aspects of the department's traffic safety program including, policies, training, public information and education, traffic enforcement activities and effectiveness of the programs. In addition to, the first place award applicants are entered into drawings for prizes. The department won a Lidar Traffic Radar Unit valued at $3,500. First place winners are also eligible for three grand prize drawings. The department was selected as the winner of a traffic radar trailer valued at $7,500.

All state entries are submitted to the National Law Enforcement Challenge. The department's entry was selected as a third place winner in the national competition. That award will be presented in November at the International Association of Chief's of Police conference in Los Angeles.
