New Village-to-Resident Notification System
East Hazel Crest is pleased to announce the launch of the Connect-CTY service, our new village-to-resident notification system. With this service, village leaders can send personalized voice messages to residents and businesses within minutes with specific information about time-sensitive or common-interest issues such as emergencies and local community matters. The Connect-CTY service will be used to supplement our current communication plans and augment public safety/first responder services.
Please accept our invitation to participate in this great service. We know that your personal information is important, and rest assured that we will not share it with anyone. If you have NOT already received a test phone call from us, or you would like to provide additional contact information, click the Connect-CTY image to sign up.
Local Hero Recognized
Daniel Ortiz of Homewood was recognized at the January 14 Village Board meeting for his actions that saved another person's life. On November 18 Mr. Ortiz was driving down 175th street about 8 p.m. and observed a lady lying in the grass of a local business. He took the time to stop and check on her as others had driven past. She could not talk or walk and was suffering the effects of hypothermia. Mr. Ortiz called paramedics and attempted to warm her until police officers arrived. She was placed in the police car to warm up until paramedics arrived. She was transported to Ingalls Hospital where the staff said she may have died from exposure if not for Mr. Ortiz interveining. Connie Pierce the daughter of Johnnie Boykins was present at the Village Board meeting and expressed her appreciation to Mr. Ortiz for saving her mother.
Mr. Ortiz is truely a local hero for taking quick action and saving the life of Johnnie Boykins.
